Modern Art Gallery Delhi
Established in the year 1954, National Gallery of Modern Art aims to acquire and preserve works of modern art; to develop galleries for permanent display; to extend a specialized library of books, periodicals, photographs and other audio visual materials; to organize lectures, seminars and conferences, and to encourage higher studies and research in the field of art history, art criticism, art appreciation, museology and the inter-relations on visual and performing arts etcEstablished with the aim to promote modern art in the country, NGMA has a vast and diverse collection of artworks. The gallery with 17,000 works treasures ancient miniature paintings to modern interventions. The National Gallery of Modern Art recognized by Ministry of Tourism and Culture of India encourages artists to present their valuable work and get appreciated for it. The gallery features a library with lots of books and other materials focusing on art as a subject.
National Gallery of Modern Art exhibits the work of national as well as international artists. A few renowned Indian names associate with this gallery are Rabindranth Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Yamini Mukherjee, Amrita Shergill, etc while Jacob Epstein, Peter Lubarda, A. Tapies, Robert Rauschenberg etc are among the international artists. Amrita Shergill's Self Portrait, Musicians and Bathers, Two women; and Jamini Roy's, Kirian, Krishna and Balarama, Yasoda & Krishna are always on display
