Jantar Mantar Jantar Mantar is a famous tourist spot in Delhi located in the heart and core of the city at Connaught Place. The architecture splendor is actually an observatory. Jantar means instrument and Mantar means calculation which if combined means Instrument of Calculation.

Jantar Mantar plays a significant role the history of astronomy. Jantar Mantar was built in 18th century in the year 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the reign of the then Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. Jantar Mantar is an astrological observatory that consists of 14 architectural astronomical instruments built to predict time, the movements of the planets around sun and moon around the earth and the positions of stars. Jantar Mantar, the astronomical wonder consists of four distinct instruments, namely, the Samrat Yantra, the Ram Yantra, the Jayaprakash Yantra and the Mishra Yantras.

Located in the bustling commercial and shopping hub of Delhi, the unique architecture of the famous astronomical wonder draws the attention of tourists from far and near. Jantar Mantar is open all the seven days of a week from dusk to dawn without any entry fee. Jantar Mantar is an integral part of any tour to Delhi for its astronomical and historical importance in the history of India.
