Delhi Metro, the latest mode of transportation in Delhi has become a popular tourist attraction in Delhi. Launched in the year 2002, Delhi Metro is expected to cover the whole metropolitan city and connect the city with NCR by the end of September, 2010 before the commencement of the 19th Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi, India.Delhi metro has become the lifeline of Delhi in this short period only. The fast service, comfortable air-conditioned coaches and reasonable prices have made Delhi metro the most ideal transport to travel within the city and to/from NCR. Commuting by metro saves the precious time and avoids the tedious journey by roads flooded with traffic all round.
The elegantly designed metro rails using the latest technology and the metro stations with modern amenities and always under the coverage of CC TVs reflect the infrastructural development in Delhi in the recent years. Started on a small scale in the beginning, Delhi metro now carries around 9 lakhs passengers a day.
Delhi Metro stations and trains are user-friendly. Trains have automatic doors and comfortable seats. The stations have lifts, escalators, computerized ticketing system, etc. Though eating and drinking are not allowed in the metro stations and trains to maintain cleanliness, there are eating options and mineral water and other soft drinks outlets in the metro complex where one can satiate the hunger and thirst before entering the platforms. At the main metro stations like Connaught Place, kashimiri Gate etc ATM facilities, gift shops and restaurants are also available.
